Okay, already, here’s my Straight Dope Dreams story. I spend a lot of time vegging out in front on a computer screen, reading stuff on-line. The vast bulk of this web reading I do consists of mostly plain text sites, like SDMB and newspaper articles and op-eds, as opposed to lots of videos and other multi-media stuff. So I’m sitting for hours reading page after page of plain-ish text, like SDMB, Washington Post, Huff Post, Raw Story, etc. Then I go to bed and go to sleep. And I dream of … wait for it … … plain text. I see, in restless dreams, page after page of plain text scrolling in front of my visual field. If I’ve been reading SDMB, in particular, it might be broken up into a sequence of little boxes like individual posts. For a while, I will be reading this text in my dream. Then, I will begin to find that it gets harder to read. Then, fairly quickly, I’ll discover that I’m unable to read the text all as it scrolls by. Whenever I try to focus my attention on one line, that line will have words changing so rapidly it is just a blur. Then, I’ll think: But I was just reading this stuff successfully a moment ago. And then I’ll realize I have no idea what I’ve just been reading. So I’ll go back to the top of the page or screen and try to read it all again from the beginning, only to discover that now I can’t read any of it at all. Then I start to feel real confused. Then I’ll wake up. Really. That is a recurrent dream that I’ve had often after spending too much time reading stuff on-line. It’s part of a more general pattern I’ve noticed in a lot of dreams: A dream will seem logical and sensible (sort-of) for a while and will follow some more-or-less coherent story line for a while. But always, after a while, the dream will begin to break up, and become less coherent and more garbled, and whatever story line was there will become jumbled or stuck and stop moving forward. Then, when the dream becomes hopeless mired, I wake up. ---

This is weird, but I had a Dope dream two nights ago too - my first. I was in my basement, and Jerry Seinfeld and **Engineer\_comp\_geek** were outside working on my house, doing something like replacing the siding. I remember wanting to see what ECG looks like, but all I could see were his legs through the window. Then Jerry and ECG got in an argument and started punching each other. I was thinking it was out of character for Jerry because usually he just cracks jokes, but it seemed totally normal in my dream that ECG would punch someone. Now in my awake state, I can imagine Jerry punching someone way before I could ever see ECG doing that. Not sure where my brain was. ---
