The announcement was that they were separating and there was a graphic onscreen that they filed for dissolution of the marriage today. ---

Don’t have a cite, but my momma said they have quite a few episodes left on their current contract so they aren’t going anywhere for awhile. This season is still pretty new and they have to finish this one at least, dunno if they already signed for another. ---

Kate at home wrangling the herd of moppets - cut to Jon walking the streets of NY and ducking into a liquor store - back to Kate answering the front door, it’s some skeevy douche trying to hit on her - back to Jon in his apartment with a fifth of Jack and a titty magazine. I smell Emmys all around. ---

I watched the show for the first time last night, just to see what the big announcement was going to be (as if there was any doubt that they were going to say they were splitting up). I can’t see how those two got together in the first place. Jon seems like he’d fit right in with the party crowd, doing bong hits and chasing women, while Kate comes off as rather frosty. Opposites attract, but sheesh! I do feel bad for the kids. There is going to be a fleeting moment in each of their minds where they think this is their fault. And, as much as I hate to say it, it may very well be, but not for reasons they had any control over. I get the vibe that Jon felt trapped by Kate, the show, and yes, the kids. His repeated assertions that he had “no idea what is going to happen” further convinced me that he wanted to do all the living that his 32 years would let him. I’m armchair quarterbacking, I admit, but I just get that vibe off of him. ---

I’ve never watched the show, have lightly followed the recent drama on the news and such, but I can imagine there will be an interesting storyline to whether Jon will step up and be a responsible parent to those eight children, doing his share of all the child-rearing, or if he will flaunt his irresponsible party-boy side and neglect his kids in order to enjoy his supposed “freedom”. Which, I guess, he was already doing, which is why he got into this mess…I have no idea what he has been like as a dad on this show. Does he have a job, a career? or was the show his career? Wonder what the custody fight will be like? And what woman in her right mind would date a man with eight kids? Oh, wait…my former co-worker, that’s who!
