(UK) Count Binface might be the next MP!

I’m glad that people here get it.

Unfortunately, a lot of the news and discussion covering this are missing the point horribly. That it would only be embarrassing if binface wins. Or speaking with dismay that binface doesn’t have any sensible policies (hand dryer positioning aside).

In most cases I’m referring to non-Brit sources though. I think they are struggling to understand this.

But no, people. This is already an incredible fail for Farage’s stunt. The anti-establishment rhetoric doesn’t land at all (I’m aware they are still trying it though…but if binface is the establishment then what’s Farage’s excuse for not debating him?).
And instead we’ll have weeks of headlines of Farage fighting a bin. And, as I’ve started to realize, the silliness of all this means every story about the by-election begins with an explanation of why it’s happening – reminding viewers of Farage’s malfeasance and petulance.
So this attempt at deflection has had the opposite effect.

As if nationalizing Adele, making Piers Morgan zero-emissions by 2030, building one affordable house, and capping the price of 99 flakes at 99p and Wigan kebabs at £2 weren’t the most sensible policies advocated by any British statesman since Churchill.

Here’s his last (Makerfield) manifesto.

The afterthought second part of item 6 worries me. British politicians have been failing to make trains work for at least eighty years. Not that ‘free enterprise’ has done any better.

At least one affordable house. Who knows, it could be as many as two.

Which would still be two more than most MPs achieve.

Quite wise. Though it has its moments

There are actually two investigations/enquiries. The parliamentary standards enquiry (into whether Farage should have declared on the parliamentary record a massive donation) would indeed be dropped if he loses. But there is also a criminal investigation into concerns formally raised by the banks as to whether other donations via a different and dodgier character (and his mother) count as money laundering - and that goes on regardless of Farage’s status.

Like, say, voting for Farage.

This is an episode of Black Mirror come to life.

Well it’s a bit of a subversion of it.

IIRC the black mirror episode had a silly meme character that got votes by people voting for the lolz and then won the election and instituted a fascist state

In this case it’s actually Farage that has been playing the media with silly memes (see below bingo card) and would like to institute several fascist policies. Heck a day 1 policy is repealing human rights legislation.

As for binface…well his platform is just a bunch of irreverent satire. But from his interviews you can tell both that he’s quite bright but also is likely progressive. Which puts a big question mark on what exactly would happen were he to win. Would he consider it the decent thing to suddenly be a real person with policies no-one was aware of?
But it wouldn’t be fascism…I think. Is his suit made by Hugo Boss?

Aside: Since when does YouTube have static images in addition to videos?

And why can I still not figure out how to embed images?

I truly hope Count Binface wins. I believe it is possible too. Remember, the UK is a country that within the last 10 years overwhelmingly voted in a national poll to name a high priced polar exploration vessel “Boaty McBoatface”. This could happen again.

Which reminds me of the election scene from Blackadder 3:

It appears to be a thing ! This is the first i’ve heard of it !..

The guy who resigned to run for his own seat, of course.

About 10 years, I think? There’s a community post feature for text and image posts, I believe as part of YouTube trying to make itself more of a social media platform. From what I can tell it’s not pushed that hard by YouTube, so it’s fairly easy to miss.

Exactly! People keep underselling his magnificent manifesto.

So, a question: Count Binface is, unsurprisingly, representing the Count Binface party. What are the bylaws of that party? Can other people join it? If other people joined it, could they decide (via primary or whatever other mechanism British parties use) to pick some other candidate to represent them? Could they kick the Count himself out of the party?

I cannot find any information about that party, but there is precedent for a British party being able to avoid internal democratic mechanisms.
