While I do listen to a fair bit of radio, the only station I listen to live is BBC 7 (drama & comedy), and even then quite rarely.
Most of my listening is done via iPlayer, podcast or downloading.

Nope. I dislike radio drama in general, but the Archers? Sometimes I have Radio 4 on at 7pm, because the 6.30 slot is often something good. So I listen to the news, then that tune comes on. Cue mad scramble for the controls to change station. Such is my aversion to that show, I can’t even bear to hear the theme tune.
People may shout me down about this, but I think there is a bit of an age divide with what radio station you listen to.
I generally listen to BBC Radio 1-Chris Moyles, Scott Mills, Jo Whiley, Edith Bowman.
My parents listen to Radio 2 and radio 4, and so like Irishgirl said, i find that very comforting when they have them on. I do like Chris Evans and Jonathon Ross.
However I don’t know many under 20 year olds who listen to both Radio 1 and radio 4.
Except! I’ve just realised I’ve been hypercritical because I love listening to Just a minute on radio 4, that programme is just pure genious.
I’m with you on that one!!!
I’ll second that. That a program that’s forty years old is as funny as the year it started is testament to its genius.
But it’s the sheer variety that draws me to Radio 4. Not only does it have some of the best comedy programmes I’ve heard, but its news and current affairs reporting is the best. And then there’s the drama and the book readings, to say nothing of the shipping forecast. And that is only scratching the surface of what it offers.
It’s a bit like the Straight Dope: it’s like joining a club you feel proprietorial about.
I think you’re completely right. Radio 1 is clearly aimed at teen through to 20-somethings, Radio 2 for about 30 to 40 and Radio 3 and 4 to all ages for different reasons. I listen to 3 as well because I like classical music and the constant adverts on Classic FM make me want to claw my ear drums out.
And I agree as well with whoever said that Radio 1 in the evening is better because they get into some different kinds of music, hence why I love the streaming media ability from the iplayer allowing me to listen to what I want to no matter what time of the day (and skip the complete shit - I’m looking at you Radio 1’s Switch!).
Podcasting.
Not like the Archers? How is this even possible? I thought anyone caught disliking the Archers was transported to America or suchlike. As for ludicrous plots: after subjecting myself to EastEnders, Corrie, etc where every wedding ends in a fistfight and every Christmas in a death, a soap where the worst that happens is the odd bout of bovine TB is quite refreshing.
Well there’s yer problem, right there.
