As for the OP, this happened to me once and I phoned the local police station. They kindly came out and rang every doorbell nearby asking if that was their car, taking great care to point out the car in question. When they got the correct person they got a ticking off and told that they were now not very popular with the neighbours because they had to wake everyone up asking who’s car it was. It was 1am! (I was picking up my parents from the airport hence my late hour driving). Needess to say the offender was not the most popular chap in the neighbourhood for a while and took great care afterwards to park his car appropriately. Although this only works if your local police force is accomodating and the offender lives nearby. ---

You could always take the advice of [this photo,](http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/eve_rachel/detail?.dir=8838&.dnm=2b10re2.jpg&.src=ph) taken near my college roommate’s house in lovely Middle of Nowhere, Kent. Everyone here in the U.S. who has seen this photo has found it quite hilarious - and very British. ---
