Given the wide acceptance of jeans with pre-torn holes in the knees (and elsewhere), I see these things as a clever statement. The calling them “mom jeans” should be enough to key people in that _the point_ is be meta and oh so ironic. ---

I wonder about cleaning those. Can’t go through normal laundry, and I’m not sure the plastic would stand up to dry-cleaning chemicals. ---

I can’t help but wonder if these aren’t actually meant to sell but, rather, meant to drive traffic to the site. In addition to this Thread, I’ve seen it shared by a few different people on social media- never in a “Wow! These are great!” kind of a way but always in a “WTF!?!?” kind of a way. But, even though people are sharing it to say WTF?, the link still gets clicked on. Other products are visible in the sidebar once you follow the link. So, I’m sure some people follow the link to gape and say “That’s so ridiculous!” but then go on the browse the rest of the merchandise. ---

Meh, ripped knees have been in style for a couple of years now, this is just an extension of the style. Looks like pretty standard fashion process. To relate to Doper’s experiences: Remember when larger collars were in style in the early 1970’s, and the trend culminated in giant collars that covered the entire collarbone and upper chest? This is like that. But probably less ridiculous. ---
