Uncredited Singers On Songs

Nicolette Larson on Dirt Band’s “Make a Little Magic.”

Elvis Costello sings backup on Nick Lowe’s “American Squirm” without credit.

Rick James on Eddie Murphy’s “Party All the Time.”

I think most people credit ‘U Got The Look’ to both of them because it’s basically a duet, but officially, like on the single cover:

or on the back of the Sign O’ The Times album, she isn’t credited.

It’s not as though it was a secret, but it wasn’t officially credited to “Prince & Sheena Easton”.

Carly Simon sang the lead vocals on the Will Powers song Kissing With Confidence. But then nobody else was credited, other than as a “Will Powers supporter”.

Going way back, Elton John (before he was famous) sang back-up vocals on “My Baby Loves Lovin’” by White Plains.

mmm

Really? Geez, talk about your odd collaborations. Speaking of Michael, I’m not sure if he was credited for his backup’s on Rockwell’s “Somebody’s Watching Me.”

I think he was credited. He was in the video, anyway.

Neil Sedaka wrote some songs for Elton…I guess EJ was returning the favor. I just saw Sedaka on the Tavis Smiley show. He wrote for a lot of other singers as well as himself; over 1000 songs in his 50+ year career. He’s had a colorful life, to say the least.

Lennon is also credited as co-writer of “Fame.”
Elton sang on Lennon’s “Whatever Gets You Through the Night.”

Maddy Prior’s Woman in the Wings featured credited instrumental contributions from various members of Jethro Tull, but Ian Anderson’s vocals on “Rollercoaster” were uncredited.

I have a couple of REM-related ones, although i don’t have the albums with me right now so i’m not sure if the singers were credited.

Michael Stipe of REM sings backing vocals on the song “Kid Fears,” from the Indigo Girls’ first, self-titled album.

And Kate Pierson of the B-52s sings backing vocals on REM’s “Shiny Happy People,” from the Out of Time album

Really? Isn’t this song a duet? I’m not going to play it here at work, but I could swear that she doesn’t merely sing backup but sings lead on a verse or two…

She does. It’s a duet, but Stevie isn’t credited on the single at all. She is on the album though.

I think both of those are credited.

Kate’s in the video, so her contribution can’t be hidden that well.

Wasn’t Petula Clark there too?

But everyone already knew that from the No Nukes Concert.

Paul McCartney can be clearly heard in the background of Mellow Yellow.

Don’t know if they are credited, but Sinead O’Connor and Kate Bush have both done some backing vocals for Peter Gabriel. In addition, Kate and Peter had a duet on one of his albums, and I think she was credited for that at least.

Kate Bush does get credit for “Don’t Give Up” on So.
