This is a really cute post. No, really - no sarcasm. I understand what you are saying but you say it in a charming way.
You are being rude, unnecessarily so, and despite the fact that you are not hurling insults at specific individual posters, you would do well to refrain from such insults in the future.

GWB is constitutionally prohibited from running again.
Hmm, maybe I should run for President. I’m over 35 and a natural born citizen.
I’m considered an “Independent” with an “affiliation” by my state’s department of state because my party, the Green Party, is not one of the two major ones. If polled I’d probably say ‘undecided’ because that would likely be my only choice, but the truth is, I’m firmly decided: neither.
Let’s stop letting the establishment yank us around, folks. Ask the Democrats and Republicans why if they’re worried about spoilers they don’t back instant runoff voting and other such reforms.
You sold me, Lama. If there’s one issue that makes me want to abstain from voting in this election, or makes me want to vote for a third (third? Why not NINTH?) party candidate this November, it’s that lack of runoff voting.
Everything else be damned. Give me Runoff Voting, or give me death!
I’m independent and so far I’m not sure who to vote for this November.
I was leaning towards McCain, but then he picked Palin, which made me lose a lot of respect for him. Now I’m sure I’m NOT voting for McCain.
That doesn’t mean Obama automatically has my vote though. For one, I’m still not exactly sure what he stands for(other then “Change”). Granted, this is partially my fault, because I haven’t really been able to follow the election due to my pretty horrible working schedule. I haven’t seen the first debate yet because of this.
If Obama fails to impress me, or I find I just don’t agree with him on enough, I may end up voting for Stephen Colbert this year.
I would likely have voted for Hillary, Giuliani, or Richardson.
The two current competitors seem equally unimpressive.
A couple of potential reasons:
-
Because there are only two parties, they are big, big tents. Both parties contain certain elements that even their most ardent supporters just loathe. I’m a pretty solid democrat voting-wise, but I disagree with pretty much every economic position championed by organized labor, which is a pretty powerful voice in the party. You have to weigh the bitter against the sweet. Maybe you’re a pro-business Republican, but you have to put up with the strong voice of evangelicals in your party. Or vice versa. Both parties contain lots of constituencies that don’t have much to do with one another. If you feel like your party is being dominated by one of those groups that you don’t agree with, maybe you have a tough decision to make.

My parents are life-long Republicans. It’s tied up in their identity, and goes back a long way (their parents were Republicans, etc.) Both of them are strongly leaning toward Obama this election because they prefer his policies (for the most part) and don’t like Palin. But every time I see them, they talk about it in terms like, “I think I’m going to have to vote for a Democrat this time. I’ve never voted for a Democrat in 30 years, but I think this time I have to.” I would put them in the undecided camp, though, because I think they’ll still be struggling with whether to break from “their” party when they go into the booth to pull the lever.
There is also the fact that many people simply don’t care one way or the other, either from apathy, or because they believe that regardless of who gets in office, day to day life will unfold in pretty much the same way. Popular culture in this country has made expressing this opinion rather uncomfortable, resulting in those people blocking the intrusive question with ‘undecided’ and ‘independent’.
I’ve said it before and to borrow from South Park, I see this election as a choice between a douche bag and a turd sandwich. Not only am I undecided as to a candidate to choose from, I am undecided as to whether I will even bother voting. The OP asked, so I am answering. Otherwise, I don’t make a spectacle of myself on a daily basis by wearing an “undecided and proud” t-shirt or by placing a bumper sticker for both candidates on my car.
Instead, I read various sites and shake my head as I see the full bore Obama-ade drinkers make their predictable assessments of everything the anointed one does as perfect and everything McCain does as an epic FAIL. In response, the McCainites throw out more bullshit ads or statements only too readily used by the idiots hosting on the nation’s airwaves.
Here is my quandary: Obama is anti gun, through statements and votes. McCain is about > < that much less anti-gun. One wants me to pay for everyone’s insurance, the other thinks a tax credit will do something. Obama is pro choice, McCain is not. Neither one of these idiots have a clue how to get the economy going, yet they, along with their fans are fucking experts at passing out blame for how we got here. It is a pathetic time in American politics when these are the best candidates that this great country can offer. To top it all off, the groupies on either side can’t understand why anyone has not yet seen the light.
So color me unimpressed. I’m not undecided, I just don’t like my options, and I’m pretty fucking pissed about it. Thanks for asking.
