Hell, I’ll go a step further- I think everyone should have to be tested every three-to-five years. I mean, you’re behind the wheel of a potentially lethal weapon- is it too much to ask that everyone be as qualified as possible?
Granted, people in the prime of life probably wouldn’t have trouble passing the test… but I’d think that constant reinforcement of driving laws would be a good thing. A nice side-effect would be that, once your driving ability starts going downhill, you’d automatically lose the ability to drive… without seniors crying discrimination.
Ya know, it never ceases to amaze me. Cars kill more people than guns (table about 1/3 of the way down), and yet states have no problem forcing people to take courses in gun safety before allowing them to get or renew their licenses, but I can’t name any state that forces you to pay 100$ or more to take and pass a test in order to renew your driver’s license.
I second the mandatory testing to renew your license. From age 16-25, every other year; from 25-60, every five years; 60-70, every other year; 70+, every damn year. And for the record, I also think that our driver’s exams ain’t worth shit. My grandfather, who passed on at 96, would have completely agreed. (He got a speeding ticket two months before he died … of orneriness
)
And God damn the stupid fucking people who feel they have a constitutional right to drive. You have a right to be allowed to drive, if you are able to.
