Minor Nit: Huntley and Brinkley was the Scherzo from Beethoven’s 9th (which the New World Scherzo sounds a bit like, so, understandable)
I can’t believe we mentioned Buffy but not Angel with that gorgeous cello line in it.
I didn’t see “Secret Agent Man” which is an all time favorite of mine.
And Peter Gunn may have the coolest little groove ever given to a TV show.
A few others I thought of…
Dallas had pretty good theme music.
Northern Exposure
Curb Your Enthusiasm. GREAT stuff.
The theme song of Mystery Science Theater 3000 holds the title for “song most likely to pop into my head at inopportune moments, and not leave.”
It also has the benefit of giving a synopsis of the show in the theme song, which I greatly prefer to instumentals or unrelated songs. More exposition please!
A couple more:
Tom and Jerry
Dad’s Army, any Americans ever seen it? All together now – Who do you think you are kidding Mister Hitler. . .
Hellsing
Thundercats
Jem
That sounds familiar. Which show is it from?
Oh, and I lOVE the theme from the Gary Shandling Show
“This is the theme to Gary’s show. . .”
Drat! How could I have forgotten to mention the Odd Couple?
Outer Limits!
The current Monk theme (Randy Newman’s It’s A Jungle Out There) is a masterpiece. I laugh every time I hear, “I could be wrong, now/ But I don’t think so.”
The Jetsons
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Bonanza
I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned The Greatest American Hero. Damn, I love that song.
The US or UK version?
Didn’t know there was a different version: The one in the US (my only realm of experience, sorry) with Patrick McGoohan, in America, accorting to IMDB it was called Secret Agent, in the UK it was called Danger Man.
In any event, the series theme song in the US was “Secret Agent Man” sung by Johnny Rivers – to this day I love that song. I see it was around in 1964 which would have made me all of 6 when it started and 10 when it was cancelled.
But I remember it and the Prisoner (Man from U.N.C.L.E, Honey West, Girl from U.N.C.L.E., Wild Wild West pretty vividly from first runs).
Sorry for the confusion.
No mentions of Merry Melodies/Looney Tunes?
