two standouts in my life: In 1970, I saw the following name in the (Big City) newspaper obituaries: “Algy Lilicrap.” Small wonder I’ve never forgotten it. Also in the early 70’s, my boss had a client (unmarried 30ish female) whose last name was “Clitsome.” Thinking about it right now, I still wonder why she didn’t change it. ---

When she was working as a nurse my mother was chatting with a teenager who had just given birth. Mom asked if the girl had decided on a name. “Oh, the father’s already picked one out. Diablo!” Apparently my mother was the first to clue her in that her boyfriend was naming the child ‘Devil.’ The nurses could hear the girl’s telephone conversation with said boyfriend from halfway down the hall. ---

I had an uncle named Harry Dick. My grandma’s name was America. I met someone today named British Holiday. I went to school with two sisters name Luscious and Precious. They had another sister who also had an outlandish name but I’ve forgotten it.
