“Why take diet pills when you can enjoy AYDS?”

How about _both_ horrifying _and_ hilarious?

I’m pretty sure it’s a Mexican company, FTR. I’m surprised anyone knows about Bimbo in North Carolina.

> I’ll take your word that it’s an urban legend, but I’ll call you on claiming that it not tanking had anything to do with the fact that the name isn’t how they would say “it doesn’t go”. I mean, “no go” isn’t how we’d say it in English, either, but a car called the “Nogo” would still be laughed at, don’t you think?

Not if it were pronounced “Noggo”. “Nova” and “no va” are pronounced differently in Spanish. A native speaker of the language wouldn’t make the connection, any more than we would think that (say) “Tabell” meant “table”.

In other words, it sounds like “semen”. Yes, that would be the point.

In Ireland, the union that pilots negotiate under is called IMPACT.

I seem to be the only person who finds it funny.

Ooh I just remembered another one. I know for sure that the owner of [Rim Liquor](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2109/2467063518_ee9de1e41f.jpg?v=0) didn’t know what he was doing when he named the place, because I talked to him. It’s near the Mogollon Rim and **everything** up there is named Rim something. He’s capitalized on it with funny tshirts now, though.

And the name makes it a very popular car with members of the Ku Klux Klan.

It’s pronounced the same as Semen. I sell their products at work now, and working with their people makes it clear that Siemens really does come from dicks.

Ottawa: Technically Beautiful

The city paid consultants a lot of money to come up with that one. :smack:

There’s also Karson Kartage & Konstruction. You really have to wonder about people who would deliberately misspell two words to come up with _that_ acronym.

Haven’t tried the baked version, but I don’t care for their other products. They have a suspiciously syrupy texture that tells me they may add corn syrup or some other additive to them.

We have one of the fastest growing Latino populations in America. And while they started in Mexico, they do have a U.S. presence. And don’t get me wrong, I figured it was less a situation of “look what those dummies did” than “my, that’s an unfortunate coincidence.” And the Bimbo bear is totally adorable.

Ah. I thought they were only here because of proximity, like how you can get Mexican Coca-Cola at convenience stores here.

Yeah, of course it’s just an unfortunate coincidence. But a hilarious one 😉

And yes, the bear is totally adorable. Which is probably the strangest part of it.

I must be in the minority here, because the brand is very popular, but I can’t hear **Trojan** without certain things coming to mind. Things like tiny, virile warriors sneaking into the city, etc… I know better than to let a Trojan horse into the gate of my city.

They actually never went by that name. The closest was “Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance”—the word “Party” wasn’t part of the official name, though I suppose some people may have tacked it onto the end for the humour value.
