Gee, don’t you think dumping a few million refuees on another country without asking permission first is kind of… rude? (I’m not sure I can say what I really think of that in Great Debates without getting a warning)
What are people smoking when they suggest this?
Refugees might want to go home, but in this sort of situation most of them “go home” decades later, or not at all. WTF are they supposed to be doing in the meanwhile? Begging for scraps?
Better to resettle them in a first world country where they can get a job (if they’re allowed to!) and support themselves, then choose for themselves if it is ever safe for them to go back. You know, treat them like fellow human beings?
So the idea is taking people that escaped a war torn country to countries where there’s not active fighting and sending them back to a country with active fighting going on against ISIS. We’ll spend money doing this that could be spent on aid. I’m sure the refugees will be pleased as punch with being forcibly sent to someplace closer to the fight. We’ll protect them with UN Peacekeepers who’s record of protecting safe zones against determine opponents is, being charitable, spotty. Somehow Iraq and the UN Security council will agree to this. Then countries will volunteer to spend money and send their troops along on this mission.
Or we could just focus on helping them where they are. Somehow that seems simpler and cheaper.
