Whoever pushed Trump into starting this conflict (or even if he did it on his own), I think the contradictory messaging is serving a purpose for MAGA. As seems to be usual, his followers can pick on any _one_ statement that aligns with their POV, and point to the contradicting ones and say “Oh, but that’s not what he actually meant, see _here_.” For those of us looking from the outside, this seems completely irrational, but for True Believers, this is an easy way to dodge. And I’m not saying he, or even his team/handlers, are doing it on purpose, but it is absolutely a learned habit that has consistently worked for Trump historically. So I think that we can’t ever expect consistency on any messaging from the White House, especially on anything as fraught as this War, whatever he calls it. I think he’s leaving it up to everyone else to find a solution that he can claim credit for. And if no one caves (His beloved absolute surrender) it’s going to just keep getting worse. ---
