what causes the c:\windows\system32 folder to be protected from file deletion?
what i mean is…
if i delete a system file in there (ie osk.exe)
in a matter of seconds the file reappears
what process/service is running in the background to cause this to happen?
It might be adware. Take a look at this Symantec Link
not adware. i tried it on 3 different boxes that I know are clean.
I know your question isn’t “what is osk.exe”…but it’s not spyware, it’s the Windows Onscreen Keyboard which is a handy utility for people who don’t have enough manual mobility to use a keyboard but can use a mouse.
Go to Start - Run and type osk in the run box, you’ll see what it is.
It’s the Windows File Protection feature. If this feature replaces this file chances are it’s a valid windows file. If you really want to remove or change one there is an article on it here.
“Windows File Protection Feature” <-- thats what i was asking…what was causing it to reappear. thanks Fred
