> When you see an eagle, and the sound they play isn’t an eagle’s cry, but some kind of hawk. An eagle’s cry isn’t that exciting.

I was going to mention that. When I was trying to get into falconry, I had it on good authority that the “lonely raptor cry” is almost always that of a red-tail hawk ([link](http://www.imperial.edu/birds/rt-hawk.htm) towards the bottom of the page, direct link might violate copywrite so you’ll have to scroll) and more [here](http://www.filmsound.org/cliche/)

> When movies and television programs have a group of rats scurrying, there’s invariably a whole lotta squeaking going on. Actual rats don’t squeak constantly as they move. They don’t squeak very often at all. Squeaking draws the attention of predators.

Like the way all snakes rattle, even constrictors? And as a ferret owner, I have to ask what the hell Marc Singer was doing to the pair in Beastmaster to get them to make that noise? Mine only make chuff chuff or dook dook noises when they are dancing and are otherwise silent.

I have always wished that my ID badge would make that _bloop_ sound that they make in the movies when you swipe them through the badge reader. Even better if it’s a series of bloops.

Any time a cat runs across the screen, especially for a frightening scene, it makes the sound that cats only make if they’re being injured, like if you step on their feet. Saw that on a Carnivale disc yesterday. Ben turns around and a black cat dashes in front of him, making that angry hurt sound. I actually looked to see if he’d stepped on the animal’s feet, because cats just don’t make that sound normally. For that matter, cats rarely meow at all unless they’re calling to their mother (and by extension their owners).

Laser guns/blasters go “Skree-ooo-pish!”. I’ve tried like hell to make my laser pointer do that, but it won’t. Lightsabres, of course, go “Schlip-shwumm-tish-tish-shwumm-schlip.”

Don’t worry. We’ll get Roger fattened back up in no time, as soon as he quits the chemo and the very thought of what people in Chicago actually, regularly eat no longer makes him vomit.

Whenever a helicopter lands and powers down in a movie, there’s always the descending clunking whine of a drive belt disengaging - helicopters may well have done that fifty years ago, but they don’t anymore.

How 'bout that little keyboard plink whenever a cartoon character blinks his or her eyes? Hell, sometimes when I’m by myself in a quiet room, I almost expect to hear myself blinking!

Um, well, the fify-year old helicoptors I’ve been in still do…

But you’re right, a lot of the newer ones are turbine, and they sound more like jet engines.

If I were stuffed down Marc Singer’s pants, I bet I’d make some odd noises. Chuff chuff would be only a beginning.

Usually in submarine movies, you have the dramatic sound of a submarine or destroyer searching for it’s prey…

\*ping…ping…ping…ping"

with the sound getting faster and faster and FASTER the closer they get!

_ping…ping…ping…pingpingpingpingpingpignPINGPINGPINGPINGPINGPIGNPING_

According to a guy I met who served aboard Destroyers, modern sonars sound more like dolphins. In fact, this guy (who may have been pulling on my leg for kicks and giggles) claimed that they would on occasion have pods of dolphins poking around to figure out who was shouting at them.

Any scene involving roadworks must include the sound of a jackhammer.

Our badge readers actually go “deet” when a valid badge is held in front of them.
