I have a tendency to sing my daughter showtunes. They’re getting slightly more appropriate as she gets older. When she was little it was Goodnight and Thank You and Oh What a Circus from Evita. She was also a huge fan of Little Priest from Sweeny Todd, which got me such a look from my husband the first time he heard me sing it. Nowadays she gets Defying Gravity or For Good from Wicked. The folk songs are a good idea, my mom and I used to sing some of those when I was little. I should start trying them. ---

Does this count as a zombie thread? Well, I’m resurrecting it. This thread was full of such great ideas that it gave me a great idea for a baby shower gift. We have several babies due in the next months to young parents, and my daughter and I are collaborating on a Lullaby Project. We’re creating a CD or two of these songs: some of the traditional ones in our family, and some of the ones you guys came up with, finishing with “Goodnight, Demonslayer”. We’re also creating a lyric book that goes along with the songs, so that the newbie dads can learn the songs. I’m having a ball creating the book, which we’re designing with ribbon binding so that it will lay open flat, and personalized for each family. If anyone is looking for a Christmas gift for a young family – this would be a good one!😃 ---

The only thing that would calm the youngest Kerrkid when he was an infant – not put him to sleep, because for God’s sake he _never_ slept, but stop him from crying – was “Smashing a Perfectly Good Guitar” from John Hiatt. It came on the Napster rotation once and he was soothed. It was amazing. He’s now 9 and he loves Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett and The Cars. I can’t decide whether to be thankful or worried. But at least now he sleeps! JK ---
