If we are to be a message board about “fighting ignorance,” then any thread that states “All people who take position X have this ulterior motive” is typically one that takes us further in the direction of ignorance, not away from it.
That is just the idiotic tagline on the banner. It’s not what this board is actually about, no more than a lot of us care about the books or column, neither.
If fighting ignorance isn’t a point, then why do any of the topics have guidelines about factual or at least verifiable information? Yes, we have several threads like the Pit and IMHO, but they explicitly state what the are. Is General Discussion not a part of this board as well?
