Probably some vacuum system
I got nothing better but even that’s just a guess.
Probably VacuValve
Just connecting the dots here, but…you’re not purchasing this home just so you can take a photograph to share with us, are you?

I win
Wouldn’t they be throughout the house?
No, we all win.
I’m hoping at least Bijou Drains wins!
We have one vacuum outlet on each floor of the house with one in the garage for our central vac. Fewer outlets with one longAzz hose to reach every corner. They also offered but we didn’t get one at floor level for sweeping debris into.
If the house has a central vac, one would think the OP knew of it as it should have been mentioned either in the listing or as a feature by the RE.
this was the only one in the house. No central vacuum.
It’s a piezo siren for an alarm system.
I offered $15k over list on a different house and did not get it.
That’s very similar but the one shown in the photo from Bijou Drains looks very much like a control knob.
the picture I posted does not have moving parts so the siren thing is correct.
Great Og almighty. Imagine finding out what that was for the first time when it went off, and having no idea what it was connected to?
Well done, goldmund, and well done Bijou for not buying that stick-built heart attack trap.
I would guess that the home inspector would have told me about the alarm if the seller did not.
Wow! If you don’t mind saying, what part of the country are you looking in?
Why didn’t you just ask the sellers what it was for?
I live in Raleigh NC area. Demand for houses is above supply. Only good thing is my place will sell fast too. Many houses here are selling 1 or 2 days after listing. Even areas that are far from most jobs are selling fast. You pretty much have to offer right after you see the house, preferably the same day. I saw a place today and will make my offer today.
check the second pic at goldmund’s link. there’s a cover that is missing on the one Bijou Drains posted.
