There’s a [Henry VI](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1393706/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) irregardless.

> If you want to follow the Musketeer’s stories to there end you have to continue with “Twenty Years After”, “The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later”, and “The Man In The Iron Mask” (and yes, the "Ten Years Later story follows the Twenty Years After one).

Nitpick: _The Man in the Iron Mask_ is the last few chapters of _The Viscount of Bragelonne_. V of B is a very long novel, and English-language publishers usually split it up into three or four sections. When split three ways, the sections are titled _The Viscount of Bragelonne_, _Louise de la Valiere_, and _The Man in the Iron Mask_. When split into four sections, one of the middle two is titled _Ten Years Later._

My nominee is the _House_ series:
_House_.
_House II: The Second Story_, which has no connection to the original story, except that it also takes place in a magical house where the kitchen door does not always lead to the kitchen.
_The Horror Show_, which has no connection to either of the first two, but was released in the UK and Australia under the title _House III_.
_House IV_, which is actually a sequel to the first movie.

Did the original _Star Wars_ have “A New Hope” at the top of the scroll, or was that added later?

Here’s a weird example I found while googling around: _[Surf II](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surf_II)_. There was never a _Surf I_. Just to make things even more confusing, it was also marketed with a subheading: _Surf II - The End of the Trilogy._

Which would have followed the same numbering pattern as _Blackadder_ if they’d gone with _Shrek Forever After_’s original title: _Shrek Goes Fourth_.

No, it was not in the original version in 1977. “Episode IV: A New Hope” was added to the opening crawl in the 1981 rerelease of _Star Wars_.

The 1979 film _[When a Stranger Calls](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_a_Stranger_Calls_%281979_film%29)_ had a made-for-TV sequel in 1993 called [_When a Stranger Calls Back_](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_a_Stranger_Calls_Back). I assume that the franchise will be continued at some point with _When a Stranger Leaves a Message_ and _When a Stranger Sends You a Text_.

And, hot off the presses: I actually found one that satisfies the question in the OP. If recent news stories are to be believed, the sequel to _21 Jump Street_, set for release in 2014, will be titled…

(drumroll…)

[_22 Jump Street._](http://www.imdb.com/news/ni55267501/)

_Blackadder the Third_
_Blackadder Goes Forth_

Then the bafflingly inconsistent:
_The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift_
_Fast and Furious_
_Fast 5_
_Fast and Furious 6_
Meanwhile, when the Tim Burton _Batman_ series came about, there was some nerd talk that it ought to be:
_Batman_
_Batman Re **tu** rns_ (Re2rns?)
_Batman **Tri** umphant_
_Batman **For** ever_

…but they went the boring route instead.

Very funny ha ha. That’s like the Encyclopedia Britannica I once owned that had successive entries for Malcolm II, Malcolm III, Malcolm IV, and Malcolm X. I’ve always wondered what happened to Malcolms V - IX…

I disagree. The only real reason for those numbers was to indicate the moves were sequels.
Thanks to everyone for all the contributions, even though most (virtually all) did not answer the OP. But it was an entertaining discussion anyway, and that’s what we’re really here for.
