Mike, you may want to offer to start her car every 2 nd week, and drive it a few blocks. I travel a lot, and when I get home from a 3 week trip, my cars tires will have small flat spots, that remain like they are memory held, very noticeable when driven the first day home. If nothing else just move it no more than 12 to 18 inches from its last parking spot, after letting the engine charge the battery for 15 minutes. She could do the last part actually. ---

It’s official. I have a valid IL driver’s license! I cannot believe it. All this mess, so many problems, and now this gift of light in the middle of a darkness so deep that, at times, it is almost palpable. MikeG is super smart, kind, eloquent, patient, funny, and a veritable database of information and advice about all things car and driving. He didn’t just take me to the DMV; he offered me a driver’s ed course for an hour and a half, making sure I was at ease driving his car, before I took the test. If you want to believe in Santa he is it. Mike, thank you from the depths of my soul for your incredible gift to me, nothing short of an extraordinary memorial to my husband. Thank you, SDMB and all the wonderful people who have offered kindness, in word and deed, ever so generously. Thank you so much. ---

Mrs. S, I am so very sorry about your husband’s sudden and untimely death. I’m a widow also, and my brain was definitely not functional for a long time afterward. It will come back, but it will take time. Lots of time. Don’t expect to feel like yourself for a year or even a couple of years. ☹ Another message board you might find helpful is at [www.widownet.org](http://www.widownet.org/wnbb3/). This is a VAST community of widowed men and women from all over, and you will find a great deal of understanding and help from people who know EXACTLY what you’ve gone through and are going through.
