I was wondering if anyone knows the best type of staple gun to get for upholstering. I am hoping to spend no more than $100. Thanks!

I actually have one of these, [http://www.amazon.com/Surebonder-9615-Pneumatic-Staple-Carrying/dp/B000N52KSW](http://www.amazon.com/Surebonder-9615-Pneumatic-Staple-Carrying/dp/B000N52KSW) , and it’s a decent pneumatic gun (if you have compressed air). It’s not super heavy duty, but for the price it works fine.

If you have a compressor, this is a darn fine gun capable of commercial use:

If you are using the gun here and there, this is all you need (below). Since you don’t know much about these guns, I suspect your casual interest warrants nothing more than an electric gun:

Be wary of the electric ones - you really need to lean on them otherwise the force will throw the body of the gun back instead of driving the staple/nail forward into the wood. You’ll get a lot of half-driven staples that you’ll need to finish with a hammer.

Do you use this one for upholstery? I think I remember the fun i used having a “nose” that stuck out a bit (like the one seen here…[http://www.amazon.com/Surebonder-5960-Professional-Electric-Staple/dp/B001EHEDF6/ref=sr\_1\_20?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1269953923&sr=1-20](http://www.amazon.com/Surebonder-5960-Professional-Electric-Staple/dp/B001EHEDF6/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1269953923&sr=1-20) ) , and I was not sure if the was necessary or not. I took and upholstery class so I used their electric staple guns all throughout that. I definitely know what you mean about the staples not going all the way in. Thanks!!

with a staple gun you need to be pushing the gun against the object with greater force than the staple is pushing back or the staple won’t go all the way in. this is true with a manual or a powered gun. the difference between a manual and a powered gun is that you don’t have to also provide the force that moves the staple forward.

a pneumatic gun may be easier because of its higher velocity. though a pneumatic gun needs a noisy compressor and more restrictive hose. there are cartridge guns to eliminate the compressor and hose but they are slower and likely don’t have the velocity.

Most important is that you can comfortably hold, and operate it, with only one hand, as the other will be required to hold up, pull taut the fabric.

Popping in to say that you probably need an adjustable pneumatic stapler for any serious work - electric ones won’t give you the option of adjusting to soft/superhard woods.

I have no idea what the price range might be, but if Norm Abrams has one, it’s good.
