It’s something that renders your complaints about CERTAIN scholarships only being for certain minorities kinda toothless. ---

Folks, come on. urbanredneck2 is but a simple-minded bloke who can’t think outside cliches and stereotypes, which he doesn’t recognize as cliches or stereotypes. He’s convinced anyone who knows more or is just plain smarter than he is is an ivory tower liberal: he’s been told this by conservative media, and it makes him feel better about himself. He doesn’t really understand data, so he relies on his own experience–warped, of course, by his own prejudices–because anything he doesn’t understand is suspect to him. He’s _absolutely_ not a troll. He’s just a guy subject to the Dunning-Kruger affect, like millions of other Americans. I get frustrated by him at times, but I like to think he can still learn if things are explained to him with great patience and in a way he can understand. ---

From what I’ve heard, the schools _hate_ highly targeted scholarships (“for a red-headed student from Podunk, Connecticut”) because they’re a pain in the ass to administer, and many years there may be no one who qualifies. As for scholarships specifically for Black kids, probably the biggest provider of them is the United Negro College Fund and when we had another thread about scholarships for Black students (and what prevented one from misrepresenting one’s race), I looked at their website. Most of their scholarships were for _any_ student at one of the HBCUs. ---
