Chasing off the bigots actually tends to make places more inclusive and invites more people to join. That’s what gaming culture did. We chased them off to their own subculture of bigoted gamers, and the number of gamers is only increasing. I know of several posters who don’t post here anymore because of the garbage that people get away with. This is not a trans-friendly board, for instance. And I’ve definitely seen more from female posters since we started caring about the misogyny problem here. ---

In somewhat related thought, I was going to post an OP about my daughter’s problems, and my concerns and difficulty in helping her, but knowing a few people will invariably screw everything up is a good reason to spare myself the heartache. This thread was a solid reminder. ---

He was probably thinking something similar to when he bragged about sexually harassment towards a nurse and doctor that were treating his eye. What a total scumbag. ---

Wasn’t he the guy who got caught using a sock a year or two ago? IIRC, he was in a thread making controversial statements along with a newish poster who sounded suspiciously like him, someone asked the other poster a question, and he ended up answering it by mistake, getting confused as to which account he was on. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I know at least two other posters reported it, but nothing ever came of it. That’s about the time he went on my Ignore list. ---

Back in 1984 I was at a school for bakers. In addition to lab classes we had lectures on various subjects. Each class had sixty-odd students. We were about twenty percent female. Maybe one third of us were non-US students. I remember one series of lectures that included a talk on women in management positions. I really liked the speaker, he was quite cool. One guy, from Canada it was, raised his hand to speak his opinion that he didn’t think women should be in management because of impaired judgement, “There’s this, uh, thing that happens to them once a month.” We women sat in a clump, and you could see our fangs begin to lengthen, and our claws grow as we prepared to spring. The whole thing got defused when the speaker leaned forward towards the guy, opened his eyes really wide, and asked “Are you talking about their raging hormones?” Everyone collapsed in laughter and the dude sunk back into his seat, his face flaming red. I wish I had the talent for good comebacks like that.
