We are dogsitting. The dog peed on our wool Karastan carpet, and we did not notice it for quite a while. Now the area is stained yellow despite blotting, spraying, and focal steam cleaning. There are lots of products out there that are supposed to be effective. However, I assume most, or perhaps all the claims are exaggerated. What is an effective product? ---

What types of cleaners have you been using? For cat pee and human pee, I’ve found that Nature’s Miracle works extremely well–an enzymatic cleaner. (Lysol and what have you won’t work.) Spray enough to thoroughly wet the stain with cleaner, then blot blot blot blot blot with paper towels. Repeat until there is no more yellow stain coming up on the paper towels while blotting. I usually finish by letting the wet spot air-dry and then sprinkling baking soda on the carpet, leaving it, and vacuuming it back up. This has effectively eliminated a cat pee stain on carpet, still-wet cat pee, liquid cat poo (the cat was sick, I hasten to add, not a demon), and human pee out of a sofa. ---

We have been using [Woolite Heavy Traffic](http://www.walmart.com/ip/Woolite-Heavy-Traffic-Carpet-Cleaner-22-fl-oz/15026728) for many, many years. It has never failed us, whether on carpets or upholstery. Use a scrub brush with it and a goodly amount of hot water when scrubbing. ---

Urine off, I have 7 dogs and this works best. A cheaper but effective solution is a half and half of vinegar and water. ---
