Yes and I was here back in 2009 when I made that post.
The reason I mentioned Ann Coulter back then was she had claimed in 2005 that Canada sent troops to fight alongside Americans in Vietnam. She was wrong. But some of her fellow conservative pundits arose in her defense to try to spin what she had said.
hpearl, it’s not entirely clear what you are asking. However, it seems to be off the subject of this particular thread. If you want to discuss the origins of the Vietnam war or the anti-war movement, probably the best thing to do is to start a new thread in Great Debates.
You’re on the right track, but believe me, you won’t get a fair or balanced answer on any politically correct internet forum. Search for “Democratic riots of 1968” or “Marxist Democrat riots”.
It certainly explains why the Marxist Democrats were protesting against the Johnson administration and rioting at the Chicago Convention in 1968, where they were brutally put down by Mayor Daley. They never would have done that to any of their fellow Marxist Democrats.
What? … he was? … in Miami? … he was also? … but that doesn’t make any sense … well, yes, I know it isn’t supposed to make any sense … don’t you think somebody’s going to notice? … what do you mean, just go with it? …
USA!!! NUMBER ONE! GOD BLESS AMERICA! 9-11! NEVER FORGET! SUPPORT THE TROOPS! SECOND AMENDMENT! TEN COMMANDMENTS! SPEAK ENGLISH! MEGA DITTO! NO BIRTH CERTIFICATE! IMPEACH CLINTON! RONALD REAGAN! JOHN WAYNE! SPARTA!
I remember reading an article on US activities against the Japanese during WWII and the aftermath. One of the best resources the USA had in the fight against Japanese occupation of French Indochina was a guy named Ho Chi Mihn who helped organize the resistance there.
In return for his help, he expected like many others, that the Americans would reward his help by getting his country established as a new independent state. Instead, the Americans handed the country back to the French. Ho Chi Mihn then went and sought help elsewhere that allowed him to defeat the French and liberate his country, or at least the north half. The south half took a bit more work.
Ludovic and Little Nemo, I realize you are joking, but to avoid someone else possibly taking such comments at face value and responding to them in kind, please refrain. No warning issued.
If you have a problem with someone else’s post, please report it rather than responding to it in kind. If you have a complaint about moderation, take it to ATMB. You know this.
This is turning out to be more bizarre than I expected.
I have learned that the Vietnam War was started by a Democrat. It was protested by leftists carrying Viet Cong flags and North Vietnam flags (but they were NOT Marxist). The leftist protesters with Viet Cong flags were opposed by the horrible Democrat mayor of Chicago. Sheesh, who could make this stuff up?!
Millionaire hollywood actress goes to North Vietnam to aid their cause. Someone remind me, was she a Young Republican?
After the protesters won and the U.S. left Vietnam, the bloodbath against America’s former allies- the South Vietnamese, the Montagnards and the Cambodians began. Not one single protest from the protesters or millionaire hollywood actresses, then.
But they probably understood that from a Marxist viewpoint, political purge is necessary in order to achieve political purity.
However, on the bright side, sales of psychiatric medication in the U.S. is waaaay up!
Actually, IIRC, a lot of the boat people were also ethnic Chinese who were persona non grata in their former home…
There was a political cartoon at the time “Domino Theory Revisited” which showed the communist leaders of Vietnam, Cabodia, and China knocking giant dominos onto each other, a reaction to the wars that broke out between supposedly brother communist states once they pushed out the Americans and their capitalist running dog lackeys. No wonder they had no time for Thailand.
Dufus, I’ve repeatedly told you to refrain these kinds of posts in General Questions. This is an official warning for trolling. Your posting privileges will be under review.

PS. I am temporarily closing this thread. I will probably reopen it later after taking care of some paperwork.
I am re-opening the thread. Please stick to the question posed in the OP. If this develops into a debate or there is excessive political commentary, I will re-close the thread.
Not in the war itself, but in trying to assist in implementing the cease-fire following the Paris Peace Accords. It wasn’t an ally of the US in the war itself, which is what the OP was asking about.
A friend of mine was involved in that operation. He doesn’t like to talk about it, so I can offer nothing from his experience. But he was there, as part of the Canadian contingent which (among other nations) tried to implement the terms of the Paris Peace Accords.
