Just to be clear, I wasn’t actually seriously Pitting @Pardel-Lux for how UKers and Poles and Hungarians voted. I was attempting, perhaps poorly, to point out how ridiculous the premise is. I don’t blame Pardel-Lux for how other people voted, nor do I think how Europeans voted in their elections excuse how Americans voted in ours. But it’s also patently ridiculous to blame me for somehow failing to magically control the votes of 70 or so million other people.

And it does, as it impacted the liberal areas of the country pretty hard, as those are the areas where people live closer together, and disease is easier to transmit, but it also doubly harms the liberals because the liberals care even when it is the conservative who dies from a preventable pandemic.

They didn’t outsmart us; the electoral college is rigged in their favor. Biden is already well ahead in popular votes, but that doesn’t matter. Not every vote counts the same.
Get rid of the EC? Sure, if we could get the small right wing states to help ratify the Constitutional amendment. But they won’t, because they enjoy the disproportionate power the EC and the Senate give them. Constitutional amendments are ratified state by state, not by national popular vote. Kansas and Wyoming would carry twice the weight of California.
So, if Trump does win, just be glad it’s not you who has to live here.

Rather than destroy both countries, maybe we could have those who want to live in a civilized country trade with those who want to live in an authoritarian failed state. They wouldn’t have to support you anymore, and I wouldn’t have to support people like you anymore.

It looks like Biden will eek out a narrow victory right now, and got a fairly big majority of the popular vote. That’s a win, not a huge landslide like we hoped but enough to undo a chunk of the damage done over the last 4 years. If that’s not enough for you, sorry, too bad. Will they ever stop calling us US-Americans? I mean, when Ukraine and Congo ask that we drop the article from the names of those countries, we do it. Media style guides are changed in a flash to comply. We denote other countries and their citizens as they wish us to. Yet they have as problem with the demonym American.
