Despite the satisfaction I would get from seeing a whole lot of these assholes in prison, I’m going to disagree with you here. I think that people should be prosecuted for the things that they are reasonably responsible for. While crimes like accessory and felony murder serve useful purposes in holding people accountable for their actions, they are often overused by prosecutors in cases where they really aren’t justified. Federal prosecutors have a long history of massively overcharging, and of handing out draconian sentences in cases where they aren’t warranted. I think that fixing this system is, or should be, a big part of the criminal justice reform that we’ve been talking about for the last few years, especially since the killing of George Floyd. There’s no way anyone can reasonably make the argument that she wasn’t warned, and she certainly seems to have received more leeway than a whole bunch of victims of police shootings that we’ve discussed previously on this message board. Let’s hope it stops there, and that no one was left permanently maimed by this mayhem.
