# US Iron Chef when?

I understand that the US is getting a version of Iron Chef hosted by _\<ahem\>_ William Shatner. Does anyone know when it is going to air?

Oh no! The appeal of _Iron Chef_ to most Americans lies not in the content of the show, but the way it’s produced for American television: especially the corny, poorly dubbed translations. Most people in America don’t know who the celebrities on the judges’ panel are, nor do we care; they’re not why I watch the show. Although the cooking is impressive, I don’t really tune in to find out how to make salmon gelato. It’s the novelty of the show that draws me in, and there’s no good way to reproduce that.

If we must exploit a successful foreign TV show, why can’t we at least give it a new title; make it its own entity? Great show, I’d hate to see it spoiled.

Ok…as long as he dresses up in those fruity costumes like his Japanese counterpart.

Can you imagine him doing the yellow pepper biting scene in the intro? Not much of a stretch for that ham.
