> It doesn’t say that in the NPR article, but I read elsewhere that without Cochise County votes (heavily R), at least two election results will be flipped from R to D, including one for the US House of Representatives.

[AP](https://apnews.com/article/arizona-deadline-2022-midterms-certification-d6a1ea4020c26313a3124931c14b79fb) says the second race is for school superintendent, the biggest disappointment in this election. Democrats in Arizona won the Senate, Governor’s and Secretary of State’s elections but lost School Sup. to Tom Horne, Sup. for eight years before becoming AG for four.

The main focus of his campaign was to stop CRT being taught in schools but was unable to point to any districts that had implemented it.

McEachin won the last three elections with at least 61% of the vote each time, and the district voted pretty strongly D in recent statewide and presidential elections, so it’d appear so.

Virginia law charges the governor (Republican Glenn Youngkin) with scheduling the special election to fill an empty Congressional seat. Interestingly, the law does not set a timeframe for him to do so — technically he could wait until almost the end of the next term to hold the election, leaving that seat vacant for this Congress.

It behooves me to point out that Rep. McEachin was re-elected to a _different_ district in the most recent election, due to redistricting. I know because he used to represent my district, in Suffolk, but in the most recent election, I voted for Elaine Luria, unsuccessfully, against Jen Kiggans.

I liked McEachin; his office was very responsive to my communications, and he had a good reputation of fighting for his constituents. We are lesser for his loss.

So is it true at this point the Republicans will rule with a _maximum_ of 222 people? That will prove difficult for them - given the narrow margin, degree of division, desire for factions to exert views and expound influence and disagreements on how aggressively they should pursue partisan crap like investigating ancient democratic elections.
