US states and their image / stereotypes

Michigan: obese union auto workers out deer hunting.

Ah, good one!!

Just thought of another one - Nevada City, CA.

And Colorado City, AZ (the polygamist hangout).

I guess there are a few out there!

There are actually a number of those. One notable one is Indiana, Pennsylvania home to Indiana University (of Pennsylvania). I had a family member that was a college professor there. I was always amazed when she complained that people from other places constantly got confused about where she lived and taught. The only other one that is more confusing is Miami University. You will need winter clothes if you go there because it is in Ohio.

California, Maryland. Just down the road from Hollywood, Maryland.

Now listen here! I grew up in Washington and you’re…ah. Absolutely right. The place is a complete dump–a hellhole, actually, devoid of all of life’s pleasures. The only reason the natives got displaced is because they tricked White Man into moving in under the shadow of a brooding volcano. Really! (See that bump on the left side of the volcano? It’s the remains of Barad-dûr.)

Colorado is a similar kind of shithole–flat, barren wastelands until you run up against a wall of inhospitable rocks beset by lethally unpredictable weather.

There’s a reason the two states legalized marijuana, and why even our iron-fisted federal government mercifully abstains from enforcing the prohibition there.

Massachusetts: One large city populated by Kennedys and snobbish people who talk funny, with the rest of the state still peeking out from behind trees.

Maryland: Crabs and Navy midshipmen, sometimes in one place

Montana: a giant open pit mine, and a river runs through it

North Dakota: a vast expanse of absolutely nothing, where it’s either 90F or -40F. Actually, that’s reality, not a stereotype.

Idaho: Lumberjacks and survivalists

Wisconsin: cheese, brats and Norwegians

Or playing euchre in a sports bar. Restaurants and bars have multiple flat screens blaring various sports events. Even the schwanky ones.

Well, the town was settled, named as a village and incorporated as a city all before the state of Kansas was even made a territory. The better question is to ask why a state would name itself after a city in another state.

And right wing militias.
