This is anecdotal, of course, but my wife, born and raised in West Africa, who got her degree in France, finds America (or at least Washington DC and Northern Virginia) far more comfortable, tolerant, friendly, and welcoming than France (or Belgium, Spain, and any other country in Europe she’s been to). There are lots of really nice people here. Lots of assholes, too… but I don’t think more per capita than any other place in the world. ---
