So are we supposed to expect one hour of somewhat-dark, two minutes of very-dark, and then one-hour of somewhat dark again? ---

As I recall, it’s not notably darker until near totality. And the real difference is during totality. That’s why a 90% is nifty but nearly as inspiring as totality ---

Some thin high clouds have moved in. I can still see the sun, but the effect may be muted a bit. ---

I am at a rest stop just outside Hico, TX, which I understand is one of the few areas within the path of totality in Texas that is not entirely overcast. It’s partly cloudy, but even with the sun behind a cloud just now I was able to make out the moon against the sun. So I am cautiously optimistic that I should get to experience about 2 to 3 minutes of totality, if the clouds don’t get any thicker. There’s even a chance (looking like slightly better than even odds) that I’ll get an unobstructed view. ---

Yeah, you don’t really start feeling it until maybe 5-10 minutes before. At least that’s my recollection from the last two. ---

Totality just over in Torreon. Miraculously the clouds parted and we saw it all. Corona is bright and regular and some big naked eye prominence at the 5 o’clock position. ---

You may be able to see the wncroachment even through some clouds - we could in 2017 and we can today. I’m just hoping it clears before totality. ---
