# Usability of meat from downed animals.

Some areas also donate roadkill to places that do wildlife rehabilitation. Zoos usually won’t take it because they actually have their own kitchens.

There was a change in the law in 2014. That [change](https://www.outdoornews.com/2014/08/14/new-road-kill-legislation-is-signed-into-law/) made it easier and quicker to claim roadkill. There’s no need to even call the police or DNR to get approval to claim a deer now. There’s a webpage for that if you’ve got a smart phone and signal.
