OK, I’m a newbie so sorry for the dumb question but when is it appropriate to use the happy orthadox jewish man smiley icon? I mean I get all the other ones but is this just for a joke or something? ;j ---

Part of the reason the orthodox Jewish guy is the coolest smiley is the fact that there isn’t often where it can be used, so it’s great when you can. I’ve seen several posts which I suspect were purpose-built to enable use of the Jewish smiley. ;j ---

This is definitely NOT a joke. The only people who can use it are those who are orthodox Jews and whose religious beliefs and traditions require the use of such icons when posting questions and answers on a message board. Do you think it’s merely a coincidence that the word, MESSAGE and MESSIAH have exactly the same number of letters? Do you think it’s simply a coincidence that the letters in the name, Cecil Adams, can be rearranged to spell “Jesus was a Jew”? You’re welcomed to this BBS, but don’t ever use that smiley unless your faith commands it. A joke? No, not a joke. ---

I think, in the interests of equal time, we should also have: - a li’l Catholic cardinal, with one of them red hats and an incense burner; - a li’l pastor with a clerical collar - a li’l Muslim with turban and scimitar - a li’l Hare Krishnan, in orange robes and bald - a li’l Mormon, male, with a flock of li’l Morwimmin (females) taggin’ along behind of him; - and a li’l Jehovah’s Witness – a smiley face knocking on a door, that appears at random times, unwanted. ---
