Utterly bored and looking for inpiration/entertainment.

There is a lot of cool stuff on YouTube. Wisecrack has lots of great videos that discuss philosophical problems or use pop culture to illustrate philosophical ideas. There’s also Yale University lectures. I have spent like a month working through Kagan’s 24-part course on the history of Ancient Greece.

I also recently played “Path of Exile.” It is a Diablo clone that is actually quite good. It is also free. And I don’t mean those bullshit microtransaction games that nickel and dime you to death, I mean really truly no-shit free. The only premium items are cosmetic pieces for your character that have zero impact on gameplay and are in no way required.

Try this free-to-play MMO RPG, Dungeon Fighter Online http://www.dfoneople.com/ . It is a pixel art based side scrolling beat-'em-up similar to If you have ever played that arcade game Dungeons and Dragons Shadows Over Mystara, it pulls its art style and action from that. (up to 4 concurrent party members can play with you)

As far as grinding is concerned, it really does not take much at all to get to max level. Each dungeon only takes around 3-8mins to beat, and the early game flies by at a reasonable pace, so it does not get too repetitive when you have 20 different classes on your account that you want to play.

And when I say different, I mean it. Each of the 42 subclasses are very distinct, from grappling to summoning to anything else, this game prides itself on its PvP experience, with real e-sports teams regularly competing, as seen here a Korean tournament has just recently concluded Reddit - Dive into anything

Thus the game is more skill based, with you inputting street fighter or mortal combat motions in order to do your special moves. Knowing when to Block and move out of the way of enemy attacks is also paramount

DFO’s filesize is reasonable, and is actively updated every two weeks or so; and has very low system requirements, so it can run just fine on my 11yr old craptop. It does require Windows, no real mac or linux support. I hear that there are some bootcamp shenanigans that work though.

Bootcamp isn’t shenanigans. It’s just Apple’s way of pretending they invented dual booting. Mac hardware is capable of running OSX (soon to be renamed Mac OS again) Windows, or Linux.

I dunno if you’re into anime-ish stuff, but i just started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender series and it is inspiring the hell out of me. Every episode makes me want to be a better person.

It is not the universe’s job to entertain you. Boredom is an admission of personal failure to engage.

There are a million and one brilliant things to do or learn or see out there. More every day than any engaged person can do in a lifetime.

You need to get out there and find stuff and do stuff. Learn something. Or sit at home and vegetate. Just don’t tell me you’ve let yourself get bored, and that it’s someone else’s problem to fix. Be happy with your inactivity and lack of engagement, or get out there and fix it, but do NOT do nothing, try nothing, and then complain you are bored.

Boredom is a luxury. It’s a positive emotion. There’s nothing bad about boredom. You should embrace it as a good thing and a wonderful opportunity. It means that you have free time on your hands, and that you’re not currently being chased by rampaging elephants.
