I’m so psyched - my mom wouldn’t let me watch it when I was in fifth grade, so I only got vicarious thrills by hearing descriptions of guinea-pig-eating from classmates. Now I get to watch it myself! ---

I was too young for the original series and I’m still bitter that the new series stole Elizabeth Mitchell (okay, okay, she probably left on her own or was let go - but she was one of my only reasons left to watch Lost!). But I still might check it out, the pilot has been getting good reviews. ---

I only remember ever seeing them eat a small bird or rodent (eg Diana unhinging her jaw to eat that guinea-pig). We never saw a Visitor even eating a plate of nondescript meat. ---

It’s nice to see Wash and Inara…err, Alan and Morena, on the small screen again 🙂 I can’t be the only one to wish there was a Doctor Who reference with the scene of the Mothership hovering over Big Ben/Parliament, maybe a scene of Ten on the top of the ship in a swordfight? 😉 so far, it’s following the original V pretty well, one question, how did the news report get footage of a Visitor Shuttle heading down to the city from a Mothership POV before the last commercial break I do kinda miss che cheesy multichordal voice of the TOS Visitors though ---

One cliche after another with not a single surprise or interesting thing happening. Child’s play to guess what would happen next. Not as bad as the original, which made it even worse (the original had some camp value; this did not). ---

So we didn’t get to hear the Visitors’ explanation for why they look exactly like us? I mean it’s obvious to the viewer why they’d want human disguises, but why present themselves to humanity in general that way? Combining the Diana & John characters into Anna is probally a good idea. Diana always got more screentime that John (who only existed so Diana had someone to plot against). Erica is an anolouge to Mike Donovan; Scott Wolfe’s character seems to be the reporter (later Visiter press secretary) that Donovan was fucking. They definatly seem to be going more for religious cult than facsism. For one thing all the high ranking Vistors aren’t even wearing clothing that looks out of place on humans. Seems sloppy. No mention of any unusual dietary preferences. 😉 I’ll give this a chance. ---

OK, posting my impressions first, then I’ll go back and see what others thought. Overall, I was entertained. I give the pilot a solid B, and I think it did a good job of setting the hook, so to speak. I’ll be watching next week. That said, there are plot holes I could drive a V ship through: 1. Ain’t no way in hell the general public, especially kids, are going to be touring starships within a week of first contact. 2. For that matter, alien starships are not going to be allowed to park themselves over major cities. 3. Speaking of V Ships, they caused earthquakes on arrival, yet they can hover without causing problems? 4. Even a maverick cowgirl FBI agent ain’t gonna just immediately join the resistance. She should have contacts all over the government, including U.S. Attorneys. All of her training is to work within the system, yet she decides to go rogue after seeing Vs have bait for brains? I think not. 5. Her son just happening to join the Hitler Youth largely because he wants to bang the V-babe is ham-fisted writing. ---

I think not. It was said that they have sleeper cells all over the world in all levels of government. That might explain the quick acceptance and letting them park where ever they wanted. Plus what is Earth going to do? We know that the ships interfere with the electronics on fighter jets and presumably rockets and missiles. ---
