speaking as a male, my most horrifying experience with female discharge came when my girlfriend was on a yeast infection medication. It was taken in pill form, but it did something that made her vagina a melting pot for latex. The condom came out in tatters. We had a terrified several weeks. I can’t remember what the medication was, in fact I’m not even sure what the infection IS, though I recall she assured me I couldn’t catch it. What’s the deal there? Another totally mystified guy, and usually glad to be one… ---

yojimboguy - In the vagina, there’s usually a balance between yeast and bacteria buggies. When something happens to the bacteria, the yeast get out of control and cause what we call a yeast infection. (I wonder if that isn’t really a misnomer?) Definitely not something a guy would catch. And yes, I remember the treatment that involved a waxy suppository, halfway between petroleum jelly and candle wax, to carry the medication. But in tatters? :blech: ---

Babies often get yeast infections in their throats (called “thrush”) and I think I heard of a guy getting a yeast infection in his bladder once. ---

It’s when the bacteria overpower the yeast to a degree that you form a bacterial infection instead. The only way to treat bacterial vaginosis is Flagyl. It is not sexually transmitted, but the discharge and the smell are pretty unforgettable. You have heard of the term “she smells like tuna”. It’s because the bacteria causes that smell. Trust me. It’s gross. It is rarer than a yeast infection, but it can occur even if you are not sexually active at all. ---

AAAAAAHHHH!!! Flagyl!!! EVIL! EVIL! EVIL! Flagyl is, without a doubt, the most disgusting medicine ON THE PLANET! It tastes SO BAD and the taste WON’T GO AWAY and the fuckers (sorry) who make the generic (Metronidazole) are too cheap to coat the pills, so they freakin DISINTEGRATE when they hit your tongue. I once made the mistake of taking one with coffee (I was at a restaurant and it was what I had…) Hot coffee + Metronidazole = puddle of chalky Metronidazole disolved on the tongue. I swear I could taste it for the next THREE HOURS. It is foul. It is vile. It also mixes extremely poorly with alcohol (they warned me of that about 9 zillion times)… Anyway, thank you SO much for dredging up that memory! And I didn’t think it smelled so much like tuna as… well… you know that swamp gas that glows in the dark? Well it’s the way I’d imagine that stuff smells. Foul doesn’t even begin to describe it. \Worst Medicine EVER!\ ---

I realize that the themes in this thread can be rather “unsavory” but they do provide a public service. I’m glad to know I’m not a freak and that I’m not going to die in the next 5 minutes. I’ve learned an awful lot on this thread and the other thread where they talk about the “Keeper”. ---

Hey, for the person curious about taking birth control pills continuously. . . I’ve been doing it for over a year. Actually, I give myself a period every three-four months (on the advice of my doctor and a nurse.) When I do have a period, it’s normal (as compared to my periods prior to taking pills continuously.) My only complaint is that the side effects of the pill seem to be stronger. (No matter what type of birth control pill I use, I always suffer the same side effects.) But I don’t ever want to bleed once a month again. This is bliss. As for someone saying guys can’t get yeast infections–I’ve read and my doctor has said that it is possible for a woman to pass it along to a man. ---
