I suppose in the future, mankind has discovered how to keep humans from aging. That’s the only way an experienced Special OPS veteran can look like he’s 20.

There was no studio. If there had been, maybe their interference would have been for the better. As it is, Valerian may go down as the biggest indie flop since Heaven’s Gate .
Miller:
I’m still just stunned at how badly Valerian was cast. I seriously can’t think of a worse miscast in a major movie. And I don’t just mean they should have cast a better actor. Jake Lloyd was terrible in Phantom Menace , but at least he looked the part. There’s a scene where Valerian explicitly describes himself, in apparent sincerity, as a square-jawed, dashing action hero. This guy?
Get the fuck out of here.
The thing is (as I noted above), in the original comic Valerian IS a square-jawed action hero:

This should have been a Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence movie, but they are both a bit played out now.
Nicholas Hoult for Valerian. And, I dunno, Hayley Bennett for Laureline.
And yes, quite so friedo on it being an indie movie. Besson can only blame himself.
20? Nah. 15.
