Yeah, he’s apparently pitching the rationale that he’s looking to bring their son back alive, while the police will gun him down like a mad dog. Because that happens to middle-class white male 20-somethings in high-profile cases all the time. ---

I don’t think the FBI said anything about what might have been found but just that they asked for items that might allow for DNA matching. And they asked for this stuff a couple of days ago. ---

There’s another exciting manhunt, um, womanhunt in the news. German authorities are searching for 96-year-old Irmgard Furchner, who was due to go on trial for her alleged role in Nazi concentration camp atrocities, but is now described as being “on the run” (or at least a slow walk). No word on whether she’s a survivalist capable of dodging authorities in the wilds of Germany. ---

Right. That is largely my point. I have no problem holding him without bail IF the government can plead facts that support probable cause to accuse him of a serious crime like a homicide or evidence that he fled in the face of a warrant that he knew about. I’m on board with that. I do have a problem with “We either don’t have evidence of the serious crime or don’t want to tell you about it, so we will peruse the federal code and find a bullshit minor crime to charge him with and use his legal and constitutionally protected activities to make an inference that he is a flight risk.” I feel that is dangerous to everyone’s liberty. ---
