Me, I think I’ll just buy a cow - as soon as I can figure out where to put her. Maybe the computer room. Anyway, I have no major plans for this weekend. Next weekend is a visit back to FL - warmth! Warmth! And it turns out that I will be going to Disney World in both March and April, so that should be fun. Tonight’s menu - Spicy Peanut Noodles. Although the fact that I had free lunches the past few days makes me think dinner should be bread and water, but I refuse to fall into the obsession trap - it’s so darn easy for me. Susan ---

Well, after several days of really nice weather here, it’s raining. Ah well, it’s Washington and it’s _supposed_ to be raining. Frankly, what we need is a bunch of snow in the mountains. We’ve had a really poor snow season here and I’m afraid we’re not going to have enough water in our watershed come summertime. Hills…we have lotsa hills around here. Hills, hills, everywhere you go, hills. I _live_ on South Hill. So, if we get snow down here in the lower elevations, we have lotsa hills for sledding. We also have lotsa trees. It’s not the trees that are the killers though, it’s fences! When I was a wee kid and lived in Germany, I went sledding on my new sled. I went straight down the hill and face planted right into a chain link fence. It wasn’t pretty. My sled was way cool, and I still have it! It was one of those wooden sleds with the red metal runners. That thing still looks almost new because I took such good care of it. I also used to wax up the runners with candle wax so the sled would go super fast. I gotta get that thing back from my Mom’s house. Nowadays, they don’t allow those types of sleds at the sledding areas in the mountains. Nope, you gotta have tubes, disks, and those foamy type of sleds. It doesn’t matter this year anyway. There isn’t enough snow up in the mountains to sled or ski! All those places are closed. The hubby is going to attempt to purchase U2 tickets tomorrow. He’s purchasing tickets for us and our friends (they’ll pay us back). We’ll see if he actually gets them. Those tickets will be sure to move fast. He’s a huge U2 fan. Me, not so much. I liked their early stuff (Joshua Tree, etc), but they got purty sucky for awhile. Ah, I’ll be a nice wife and go. I’m sure we’ll have fun. We were gonna try and get Pearl Jam tickets too, but, alas, I will still be in San Diego for my training when they play here. Oh well. My Friday has started off rather sucky. I couldn’t sleep last night and finally managed to drop off to sleep around 2 am. Hubby’s alarm went off at about 3:30. I was so out of it I asked my husband what the hell that awful noise was. So, I drift off back to sleep and my alarm went off, twice (I have a double alarm). However, instead of hitting snooze. or more properly, actually getting up, I turned the alarm off! :smack: This means I overslept by almost an hour and a half. This also means I was a half hour late to work. I hate, hate, hate, when I do that. I just feel so stupid when I’m late for that kind of reason. This weekend looks to be busy. Need to get haircuts for my daughter and I (plus I need to color my hair), need to run the usual weekend errands, we’re going out to dinner tomorrow night, we’re playing cards and visiting with some friends the same night we go out to dinner, and a couple of other things. Maybe I can take a nice nap on Sunday afternoon. Well, better do some work. ---

Regardless of what many people think, our animals become part of the family, and by extension, sort of like kids. My dog is still young, drives me crazy with his shedding, does stupid things, but I love that crazy dog and don’t look forward to the time that we are going to have to lose him. My cat is getting up in years and doesn’t have that much time left. So, we’ll be facing this soon too. ---

I have never been sledding. Nope. Not at all. Not on a sled, nor saucer, nor innertube. Been skiing. Liked skiing, but it was too expensive. What can I say, I grew up in an area that went into cold weather panic mode when the temperature dipped below 32 degrees. After a super cold night, there might be little slivers of ice around the rain puddles. It did snow once, but by the time anyone got around to finding sled-worthy substitutes (no one _owned_ a sled), the snow had all melted. At times, I do feel as if I was unfairly deprived of a childhood joy, but I played cowboys and Indians amid redwood trees and flew kites on the beach in December, so I guess the exchange rate was in my favor. And, as opposed to Florida, Arizona, Southern California and the like, I didn’t have to put up with heat in the summer. The whole area went into heat stroke if the temperature made it above 70 degrees. So sometimes I wore at coat at the beach in July, at least I wasn’t courting skin cancer. ---

**Susan** , wave when you go by. We might go to Dizzyworld this weekend but not sure yet. It all depends. **Taters** , I wouldn’t be too excited about U2 either. I saw them twice, many, many years ago. I think the first time was when they were touring after _October_. The second was after _The Unforgettable Fire_. I just checked and they’ve released about 11 albums since then. Time flies. I would like to see Pearl Jam, though, if my old ears could take it. **Kallessa** : 😛 ---

Going back to a few OPs ago; the famous Sannich thread, I am making **Rue’s** nanner, PB and honey sannich tomorrow. I had plenty of PB and almost always buy nanners, but kept forgetting to get honey. Which brings me to my point: **WHEN THE HELL DID HONEY GET SO FLIPPIN’ EXPENSIVE?!** What, are the bees dyin’ off? Jeebus! You couldn’t tell the bees are dyin’ off around here. There’s tons of em! At any rate, **Mr. Taters** is really lookin’ forward to tasting this. Great! Now I’ve talked about food and I’m hungry. Good thing it’s nearly lunch time. ---

It sounds like the thing for your dining room. Accept no cheap substitutes. I mean, you have to see, might as well see in style right? I talked to ACBG a while ago. His family is bbqing tomorrow. I know what that means. He’ll be hungover for two days afterwards. His family tends to… ummm… imbibe a little bit of beer while bbqing, as he tells it. Poor baby. My day started all exciting. I stopped to fill my van with gas, since I’ll be driving to the airport in the dark of Monday morning. The pay-at-the-pump didn’t seem to like my VISA check card. I thought I’d try to use it as a debit card, still no-go. So I just filled up and went into the store. The nice little clerk-girl swiped it to no avail. Then she looked at it. Stoopit thing expired in January. And I hadn’t gotten my replacement. I had to pay with another card - lucky for me, I’m multi-cardial… As soon as I got into the office, I went to my credit union’s website and fired off a message asking for a new card. They’re really good about responding, so I wasn’t worried. And when I got home, what should I find but my new VISA check card in the mail! Talk about service!!! OK, so maybe not. Apparently, the replacement card was mailed to our old PO box, and thence returned to the credit union in FL. They popped it into another envelope, put the correct address on it, and sent it back. If it had been ONE DAY sooner… In other happy news, my sweetie called and he doesn’t want dinner, so I don’t have to cook, unless I want something myself. So I can chill tonght. In yet other news, as soon as I sat down at this computer, I saw a stray cat outside my window - a skinny little tri-color. He looks awfully young. But I must be strong. I already have a cat and a dog. I don’t need another. And anyway, he may not be a stray - he may just be a neighbor’s outside cat. He better be, or I may be forced to feed him… ---

[/BQUOTE] There are mites getting into the hives during hibernation. I heard something on NPR about it the other day. About 30% of the country’s bees have died this winter so far. Farmers who rent beehives to pollinate their orchards are paying double per hive, somewhere around $96 per. I couldn’t make that up. And **Bob** , sorry to hear about the vunderpooch. I never liked putting down any of mine. As if going to the Pottery for no reason wasn’t bad enough. The Factotrix is amoazed that I’ve lived down here since 1985 and still have managed to avoid going even though I was married for 15 years. She says it ain’t natural. I think I was just smart. ---

It’s Friday! 20 more minutes and then I can go home! I don’t have to cook tonight because we’re going to a surprise birthday dinner for a friend. **Scout** has graciously agreed to meet with me when I go to San Diego. This is a crazy year I think, in terms of meeting those “crazy internet people” I interact with. So far this year, I’ve met a bunch of Chicago Dopers/LJers. I’m hoping to meet some of the DC/MD/VA people at the end of this month, and then **Taters** is on the schedule for mid-March. Phew! I think some of you need to plan summer vacations out here in Southern California. 😃 ---

Well, I have a strong aversion to Southern California, but I will be in Sacremento, Monterey (maybe) and San Francisco in May. I have a convention in San Francisco, and I’m going to see my neice, her husband and the bestest, cutest babies in the whole world ever (baby toes!!) in Sacramento. My nephew lives in my old stomping grounds, Monterey, so I may go and see him. I’d like to see real baseball game (i.e. in general, National League, in particular my boys, the Giants), so I might see if my nephew can get the tickets and see him there instead of driving all the way down to him. Plus I haven’t decided it I’m driving or flying–I won’t need a car either at my neice’s or in the city, and the cost of the flight from Sac to SF isn’t that bad. And maybe my nephew-in-law or neice (but not both 'cuz the babies are too little) will want to go to a game and drive me to SF. But if I drive, I can stop for a quick day or two at my Mom’s, then I won’t feel guilty for flying over her house and not stopping. Can I do Salem to Portland in a day? It would be a loooong day. But if I got myself down to say, Medford, maybe went to a local meeting, then drove to Sac the next day, that wouldn’t be bad. I like to go on with this stream of consciousness travel planning, I haven’t even gotten to a spot where I’d be able to met with Dopers, and I’d like to do that, but I have to work tomorrow and my kitty is already a bit mad at me for staying up so late and she’s not going to like me not being home tomorrow, and besides, it’s Friday night (Saturday, really) and nobody’s gonna be reading the MMP anyway, so I’m going to stop and just go to bed. I’m too dependent on periods and commas to really do stream-of-consciousness (not to mention my penchent for parentheses). I could use dashes, I suppose, but commas are more ingrained in my consciousness. My good Gods! My subconscious is a grammar queen! Better keep a tight lid on it. Her. Me. Whatever. What a shame no one will read this masterpiece.
