I love “The Dot and the Line”! I’ll be buying the Glass Bottom Boat, just to get it! Thanks for the info!
Now, not to hi-jack, but there is another short that I haven’t seen in years that dates from the same era, although I believe it was a Disney short. It is the one about Pythagoras and geometry. Does anyone know what I am talking about or have any info?
I fell asleep watching TV last night. I woke up about 4:40 am central and couldn’t believe my eyes. There were shapes, and there was a story. I remembered this thread, and didn’t think it could be true, but it was the “Dot and the Line.” Unfortunately, I only caught the last five minutes or so, and my sleepy state allowed me to only remember the ending:
To the vector go the spoils.
There’s no mention of it on TCM’s schedule, it’s like it was just a filler. “West Side Story” was on before, but there’s no mention of any TCM Shorts on the schedule.
Anyway, I came back to the thread to report that my tape from TCM arrived in today’s mail and I just watched it! Yay! That’s the first time I’ve seen the whole thing from start to finish since junior high school.
(Sad to say I think I still like the book better – isn’t that always the case? – but I am still VERY GLAD to have this in my library. They are both such a thing of beauty as to bring tears of utter joy to my eyes every time!)
And of course I will still be picking up that DVD.
Yeah, what Dignan said. I was up late the other night (as always) and saw this wonderful little film. Didn’t tape it—didn’t know it was on. I must have seen it when I was in school too—it looks familiar.
