There are too many variables in why people eat meat, and the economic and social pressures under which they choose their diets, to make such a blanket statement. Here’s an explanation that might be simple enough even for **stupidaaron** to absorb and understand: Consumers of all sorts of goods and services often provide financial support for behaviors and practices that some people consider unethical. Those who buy shoes made in SE Asian sweatshops fill the coffers of those who employ people under poor conditions for awful wages. Those who buy drugs end up giving their money to cartels that are responsible for murder and extortion. Those who use prostitutes might have their money end up in the hands of a pimp who beats his prostitutes. Those who buy Coors beer provide more money to a bunch of asshole conservatives. And those who eat meat often end up supporting an industry that does (what i believe are) unethical things. But that does not mean that any of those acts—buying shoes, smoking weed, using a prostitute, drinking Coors, or eating meat—are unethical activities, in and of themselves. The blame for the unethical activity lies further up the chain, and while the millions of individual consumers might help facilitate it, their purchasing decisions are not unethical, and each consumer has such a small impact that this is the wrong place to lay any blame for unethical conduct. Basically, i don’t believe that the housewife buying chicken pieces for family dinner, or the college student picking up steaks for a barbecue, is ethically responsible for the chain of problematic practices and processes that bring that meat into the supermarket. If i believed that the simple act of killing and eating an animal, under any circumstances, were unethical, _then_ i might believe that all meat-eaters are unethical. But i don’t, so i don’t. Simple. ---

I did not insult anybody. You guys are way too sensitive. If the problem is the word “fradulent,” I only meant that it’s ethically futile. It’s difficult to impossible for people in the devloped world to live without killing animals. I don’t know why anybody would find that observation personally insulting, or even debatable. ---
