Certainly seems to rule out the possibility that the crash was an accident. I suppose shooting himself might have been, though, if he was drawing his weapon to go on a rampage and inadvertently shot himself through, say, the femoral artery.

According to German sources, the driver might have been a 48-year old German with a history of unspecified “mental problems”. Police is searching the driver’s apartment at this moment.

Edit to add: news from 3 minutes ago (from “The Independent”):
