I saw Lyle Lovett a couple of weeks ago in Grand Rapids. During the middle of the show some guy started to yell at Lyle between songs about how he took his girlfriend to his show last year and this year she is there but now she is his wife. Guy was really being a bit of a twat, but Lyle humored him for a bit and then said he would play a song about a wedding for them. Yep, LA County.
It was sublime.
The music we get at work often plays I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie. It is, IMO, a great song, but there is no doubt that it has a stalkerish quality about it.
I never even thought about a husband when listening to that song. I assumed she was going to kill her kids.
She has a LIST of names, not just one which would indicate her husband. I just assumed she got the kids, and lit the sweater on fire along with the kids.
Especially at the end it says “Light the sky and hold on tight the world is burning down, she out there on her own and she’s alright.” If she had her kids with her she wouldn’t be on her own.
I assumed she destroyed everything and now that it’s all gone she’s fine
