I’ve been seeing [this one](http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/ad-day-wks-grand-new-delta-spot-very-poetic-and-bit-unsettling-167128) recently. It’s for Delta Airlines. It shows a closeup of a runway, with the lines and tire marks passing by faster and faster until the plane takes off, all while Donald Sutherland does a voice-over. I’m not sure I’d call it lovely, but I like it because I recognize that runway.34L at Everett, Washington. ---

There was a German shipping company called the Beluga Group that had a beautiful ad on their site – sadly the company is now defunct and I can’t find it online though I have a copy. They were forward-thinking and environmentally conscious in many ways, funded academic research, and were the first company to introduced “skysails” on their ships, which harnessed the wind to improve fuel economy. The ad begins with footage of Beluga whales and dissolves to imagery of a fleet of majestic ships against the sunset, with a cinematic score that gives it the feel of a full-scale feature movie production. It ends with an image of a diving Beluga whale with just its fin sticking out of the water, which transforms into the stylized Beluga Group logo. Not a word is said throughout, just music and imagery. It was very well done. But since I can’t find it here’s a consolation – another defunct company, 3DFX, which used to make computer video cards, had a series of ingeniously funny ads – here are two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooLO2xeyJZA ---
