Another theory that I also read at FO’s message board, was that Philly’s OL is so bad this year that Reid was scared Kolb wouldn’t make it through the season. Or get David Carr-itis. A running quarterback would be more likely to perform better behind such a porous line. Also, this allows Kolb a bit more time to heal. As Vick is on pace for 72 sacks, it’s likely we’ll see Kolb this year whether or not he starts now. If you’re Philly, do you try to trade for Marcus McNeill, and if so, what’ll his price be?
Oh, and thanks VarlosZ for the analysis on McCoy. I will now back slowly away from the cliff. The last two games have looked like Jackson is taking a Chris Chambers-like role now with Vick throwing (few receptions, but the ones he gets are usually long/or TDs). Not what I expected when I paid that much for him.
Count me as one in the ‘for’ camp. What’s the Eagles’ biggest problem been for years? Andy Reid/Marty Morhinweg don’t run the ball.
This solves it instantly. 15% of all called passes will now be rushes whether Morhinweg likes it or not.
And this certainly doesn’t hurt McCoy’s value. Go back and watch any Falcons game from 2003-2006 and watch how many defenders go with Vick anytime he fakes a bootleg. Then look at Warrick Dunn, and see how much space he’s got to work with. If he hadn’t already lost his top-end speed by the time he went to Atlanta, he might have rushed for 1500 yards a season.
Jury may be out on what it does to Jackson for some time, but I’m not worried. Vick can throw a deep ball nearly as well as McNabb did, and the safety who’ll be spying him on every play means more space to run around behind the defense for Jackson. On the other hand, Vick’s not going to be leading him much, so he’ll have less opportunity for YAC.
The Philadelphia Inquirer had an article in its sports section a couple of days ago that said something about Vick having a good day “despite having an offensive line that’s going to get somebody killed some day”. And I don’t think they were referring to somebody on the other team
