It’s definitely isometric.

That’s video from the game, I set the timestamp to where the gameplay actually starts.

Compare to a modern isometric angle game like Diablo 4, you’ll see a very similar angle of view (despite the graphics being far more advanced).

You had complete control over the camera angle, though. You could, if you wanted, pause the action and do a complete Matrix rotation around it. Or rotate around it while the action was still going on.

In common usage, that’s still isometric.

So you had complete control? You can take it out of an isometric angle? You can go totally vertical or horizontal? I thought it was fixed at isometric? (An isometric angle that rotates along a single axis is still isometric.)

…Actually, come to think of it, I don’t think you could go full vertical, as that wouldn’t look right with the sprites that were used for all the units, but I think you could go full horizontal. Though it’s been a while since I’ve played.

It does seem like there should be some sort of distinction between movable-camera and fixed-camera, though.

I agree.
