Kal - I am sorry about you loss, but your post was an over reaction between two things that have nothing to do with one another.
It was classy of An Arky to apologize, but I think you might want to consider making one of your own for your out of line jump down his throat.
This is just fuckin’ enough.
Kal’s responses were very prudent to the comments by An Arky and tlw. I thought this board was about fighting ignorance. Apparantly fucking not.
Those who accuse Kal of over-reacting seem not to be considering what has been said in this thread.
The American media have begun pulling out all the Gypsy and Traveler “experts” to prove that this woman’s behavior was inbred and to be expected.

What if she had been Black? Hispanic? Islamic? Or, like myself, Cherokee? Would this shit still be going off? I seriously doubt it. Instead the media are making a mockery of her Pavee ethnicity and milking it to prove that all “travelers” are the same. They are not. Just as with any race there are good and bad. So to group every type of “traveler” be them Irish Pavee, Roma, which ever they may be, is just fucking ignorant and should be fought.

The fact that I had been pregnant, no pardon me… germinating … one of these virulent strains just pisses me the fuck off. He was a fucking beautiful child - with fingers and toes and a once valiantly beating little heart. A CHILD. Not a fucking DISEASE that needed to be treated and gotten rid of. This is where, Diane, you are wrong. The two things had everything to do with one another. Kal’s comments were relative. Very relative.
So for those of you who accuse Kal of over-reacting… Perhaps a touch. Should he appologise for all his posts? No. Fighting ignorance is a must. To perpetrate these lies embarasses me to be an American. I fucking hate how the media and the country treat my husband’s people. It’s a fucking disgrace.

Washte, I’m so sorry for your pain. I have been where you are.
But I think you are also over reacting. You are, of course, correct when you say that there are good and bad elements of every culture. But, there are also some elements of some sub-cultures that institutionalize criminal behavior. This is true for yours, and it’s true for mine.
Does the media accentuate these elements? Sure they do. Hell, there’s a hit TV show built on the fascination that people have with the criminal elements of Italian Americans. Does that piss me off? A little, but I also recognize that these people do exist. They aren’t representative of me or the majority of the Italian Americans in this country, but they do exist.
I don’t think anyone in this thread was trying to generalize this womans behavior, or the well-publicised behavior of other Irish Travelers to the whole ethnic group, and I’m positive that nobody would have considered your child to be a “disease”.
Whilst I do feel that I was totally correct to be offended by An Arky’s post, I deeply regret my mini-meltdown earlier, it was not worthy of this message board.
Likewise, Washte’s post is not representative of her. Please understand that she has been through a very tough month and reading a post where my and our child’s culture was insulted proved to be too much. When she calms down I’m sure that she’ll regret it, she displayed more anger in that one post than she has in the two years we’ve been married.
I’m going to ask that you all ignore our posts in this thread and please don’t respond to them, then I’m going to see if I can get a Mod or Admin to remove or edit them.

I think that this thread is just pressing on too many sore spots, especially for the grieving parents. I’m sorry for your loss, Kal and Washte. I think I’d better close this thread now, and if someone wants to open a similar thread, we know where NOT to take it.
