They got lucky and hit the right spot in the brain. Primitive methods back then often resulted in less successful outcomes.

Makes me wonder if todays more precise micro surgery would have better results? There are very disturbed people that might be helped. It’s better than institutionalizing them for the rest of their lives.

The problem is some people got lobotomys that weren’t necessarily needed. I’ve read the Kennedy girl really wasn’t that out of control. A bit rebellious and the family made a poor decision that ruined her life.

His name is Howard Dully, not Duffy. And I am not sure he would have any useful information for you. His lobotomy was performed in 1960, which is long after your grandmother’s. Maybe there are some medical archives you can try.
